They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them,“ Do not do as they do.”

They refused to obey his rules. They broke the covenant he had made with them. They didn’t pay any attention to the rules he had warned them to keep. They worshiped worthless statues of gods. Then they themselves became worthless. They followed the example of the nations around them. They did it even though the Lord had ordered them not to. He had said,“ Do not do as they do.”

They despised his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers and the warnings that he gave them. They went after false idols and became false, and they followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the Lord had commanded them that they should not do like them.

They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors, and they despised all his warnings. They worshiped worthless idols, so they became worthless themselves. They followed the example of the nations around them, disobeying the Lord’s command not to imitate them.

彼見滅於爾前之後、慎毋隨其惡俗陷於罪網、毋求其所敬之神、毋自言此諸國之民、如何事其諸神、我亦欲如是行、彼事其神、凡主所憎所惡之事皆作、甚至焚子女於火、以事其神、爾事主爾之天主、斷不可如是而行、

叩拜非天主動我忿心、崇事虛無干我震怒、我使賤族賤族或作異民動其忿恨、必使頑民激其惱怒、

彼雖知天主、不以天主尊之、亦不謝之、乃思念虛妄、心以頑而愈昧、自稱為智、反成愚魯、以永生不可壞天主之榮、易以偶像、髣髴可壞之人、及禽獸昆蟲之形、

主如是云、昔爾列祖遠離我、從虛無之神、行虛誕之事、曾見我有何不義、

自稱為智者、必愧怍驚恐而見拘、彼棄主言、焉得為智乎、

皆因巴沙之罪、及其子以拉之罪、父子犯罪、亦使以色列人陷於罪、崇拜虛無之神、干主以色列天主之怒、

摩西取血、半盛於盂內、半灑於祭臺上、以約書誦與民聽、民曰、凡主所命之言、我必聽從遵行、摩西以血灑民曰、主與爾立約、欲爾遵守此諸誡命、以此血為證、

我屢屢原文作每晨遣我僕眾先知警教之云、此可憎之事、我所憾者、爾勿行之、

在諸邱壇上焚香、效主在其前所逐異族之民、行諸惡事、干犯主怒、主曾禁之曰、勿拜偶像、而彼反拜之、

悉屬虛無、迷妄者所作、受罰之時、俱必滅亡、

毋違棄主、而從無所裨益、不能救援虛無之神、因如斯之神、原屬虛無、

論及食祭偶像之物、我儕知偶像在世間為虛無、亦知天主獨一無他、

非若昔與其祖所立之約、在我援手導彼出伊及地之時、我雖為其主、彼仍違背此約、或作昔我援手導其列祖出伊及之時與彼立約我雖為其主彼仍爽我約今所立之約必不若是此乃主所言、

加以警戒、使復服主之律法、乃彼狂妄、不從主之誡命、干犯主之法度、人若遵之必得生、彼乃違背強項、不欲聽從、主寛容之、歷年已久、且以主之聖神、感諸先知警戒之、彼仍不聽、故主付之於異邦人手、

彼所敬之神、不如我天主、我敵亦能決其為然、

今日爾眾、爾諸族長、支派之牧伯、爾長老有司、及以色列眾男、爾子女妻室、與爾營中之外邦客旅、以及為爾析薪汲水者、俱立於主爾之天主前、欲爾遵主爾天主之約、即今日主發誓與爾所立者、或作欲爾遵主爾之天主今日與爾所立之約及所立之誓主今日立爾為己民、己為爾之天主、循其所許於爾、亦循其所誓於爾祖亞伯拉罕以撒雅各、此約此誓我不第與爾曹立、凡今日與我同立於主我之天主前、及今日不在此者、我與立此約此誓、

因爾焚香、獲罪於主、不聽從主命、不遵行主之律例典章法度、故爾遭遇此災、有如今日之景象、

乃彼不順、叛逆主、背棄主之律法、殺勸其歸主之眾先知、行大褻瀆之事、

造偶像與賴偶像者、亦皆與偶像無異、

昔主於以色列人前、逐異族之民、以色列人乃從其習俗、亦從以色列王擅設之陋規、

當恪守主爾之天主所命爾之誡命律法禮儀、凡主所視為正、所視為善、爾當行之、則可得福、可入而得主所誓賜爾列祖之美地、

行惡於主前、昔主在以色列人前所驅逐諸族、行可憎之事、瑪拿西效其尤、

乃瑪拿西誘猶大人及耶路撒冷居民行惡、較主在以色列人前所滅之諸族尤甚、

彼皆愚昧、同為無識、拜偶像之典章、盡屬虛妄、所拜者惟木偶、

主其列祖之天主因憐其民、惜其居所、日日日日原文作每晨遣使者訓誨之、彼訕笑天主之使者、藐視其言、侮辱侮辱或作譏諷其先知、故主震怒其民、不復援之、

人必對曰、緣斯民列祖之主天主、昔導之出伊及、與之立約而民背之、往奉事叩拜異邦之神、即素所不識之神、主未嘗命彼奉事者、

耶穌曰、挹之、遞與司筵者、僕遂遞之、
