He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought,“ Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.

Ahaz offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus. They had won the battle over him. Ahaz thought,“ The gods of the kings of Aram have helped them. So I’ll sacrifice to those gods. Then they’ll help me.” But those gods only caused his ruin. In fact, those gods caused the ruin of the whole nation of Israel.

For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him and said,“ Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.

He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him, for he said,“ Since these gods helped the kings of Aram, they will help me, too, if I sacrifice to them.” But instead, they led to his ruin and the ruin of all Judah.

亞馬謝既殺以東人凱旋、載西耳族之上帝像以歸、焚香崇拜、尊若上帝。

居埃及、八羅之猶大人、男女眾多、咸至耶利米所、中有男子、知婦女焚香服事他上帝、告耶利米曰、爾藉耶和華名、傳諭於我、我不聽從、我所欲者我必為之、昔我列祖、王公、在猶大諸邑、耶路撒冷逵衢焚香灌奠、奉事天后、當時咸得果腹、所遇亨通、不遘患難、我不焚香灌奠奉事天后、我則缺乏、又遇鋒刃饑饉而亡。

精神倍長、向前遄征、復獲罪於耶和華、自謂其上帝所助。

以色列族乎、爾自取戾、惟望可得救、

屹立若柱、不能言、不能行、藉人肩負、彰癉不加、爾勿畏之。

王自大馬色至、見壇、近前獻祭、焚其燔祭禮物、酒以灌奠、以酬恩祭牲之血、灑於壇上。

耶利米告諸男女、庶民、曰、爾列祖王公、庶民、爰及爾躬、焚香於猶大諸邑、耶路撒冷逵衢、耶和華鑒察、憶念之、見爾作惡、深堪痛疾不能復忍、故使爾土荒蕪、無人居處、為人詛咒駭異、今日之事為證。然爾焚香、獲罪於耶和華、不聽命令、不遵律例、不守法度、不奉禮儀、故今遭殃。耶和華又告庶民、及眾婦女、曰、猶大眾人、居埃及者、宜聽耶和華言。萬有之主以色列族之上帝耶和華云、爾與婦女、欲行之事、已出於口、曰、我曾發願、焚香灌奠、奉事天后、必償我願、必行所欲、今爾曹宜聽我耶和華言、我指己而誓、必不使居埃及之猶大人崇事我、稱我大名、我意已定、降災爾躬、居埃及之猶大人、使戮於鋒刃、亡於饑饉、滅之殆盡、其得脫於鋒刃、自埃及復歸猶大者、寥寥無幾、厥後猶大遺民、欲往居埃及者必知所應、何人之言、彼與抑我與。

罪人惡黨、同歸於盡、凡棄我者、淪胥以亡。
