Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

叫你们可以向外人行事端正，自己也就没有什么缺乏了。

好使你们的行为能得外人的尊敬，同时也不依赖任何人。

好使你们的行为能得外人的尊敬，同时也不依赖任何人。

这样，你们可以得到外人的尊敬，不必依赖任何人。

使你们行事为人可以得到外人的尊敬，自己也不会有什么缺乏了。

俾正爾行以向外人、致無匱乏、○

行所當行、以待會外之人、而己無匱乏、

如是、爾向外人行事合宜、而己亦無所乏也、○

務使外界睹爾品格高尚、行為端正、而無求於人也。

so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Then unbelievers will have respect for your everyday life. And you won’t have to depend on anyone.

so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.

so that you may behave properly in the presence of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone.

so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need.

that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

that ye may walk becomingly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.

so that you may walk properly in the presence of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone.

That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and[ that] ye may have lack of nothing.

In this way you will live a decent life before outsiders and not be in need.

that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.

Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.

Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.

Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil’s trap.

Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.

He replied,“ You are permitted to understand the secret of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables for everything I say to outsiders,

Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk backor steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.

In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over

But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!

Stay away from every kind of evil.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Was I wrong when I humbled myself and honored you by preaching God’s Good News to you without expecting anything in return?I“ robbed” other churches by accepting their contributions so I could serve you at no cost.And when I was with you and didn’t have enough to live on, I did not become a financial burden to anyone. For the brothers who came from Macedonia brought me all that I needed. I have never been a burden to you, and I never will be.

We are traveling together to guard against any criticism for the way we are handling this generous gift.We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to see that we are honorable.

It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning.God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say,“ You must remove the evil person from among you.”
