諾厄既承示未形之事、心懷惕若、乃豫備方舟、以濟其家。彼之為此、實憑信德；且彼之信德、即所以證世之罪、而自躋於因信成義之域耳。

古時人欲橫流、天主亦不惜使洪水氾濫、僅有宣揚道義之諾厄及同伴七人得濟。

抑爾藐視天主之大仁大慈、寬容忍耐、而不知其涵宏寬大之所以啟人悔悟乎？今爾剛愎自用、無悛於心、祇為積愆干怒；其時既至、必遭天主之譴怒。

曰『爾等當勉入窄門。予實語爾、欲入而不得入者、眾矣。迨家主一興而扃其門、爾等始立門外而叩曰：「主為我啟。」主將答曰：「吾不識爾為何許人也。」

以聖道和水、洗之使潔、俾其成聖、

惟引之永生者、其門何窄、其路何狹、得之者鮮矣。

若天主欲宣其威而彰其德、對於可惡可毀之器、已予百般容忍、

人子降臨之日、一如諾亞之日、當時人方飲食婚嫁、平適如恆、至諾亞一入方舟、洪水倏至、而盡滅之。又如羅德之日、人方飲食貿易、樹藝建築、晏如也。至羅德一離索多瑪、硫火即自天降而盡滅之。人子顯臨之日、亦復如是。

人子之臨、正如諾厄時事；洪水未至之日、人方飲食嫁娶、晏如也；至諾厄入舟之日、人猶不覺；洪水倏至、咸遭滅頂；人子之臨亦復如是。

吾主之寬裕容忍、正為吾人之福、當作如是觀也。關於此點、我親愛之兄弟葆樂、亦已按其所賦之智慧、寓書於爾矣。

二三子毋庸憂疑、已承爾父美意、以國授爾矣。

蓋吾人乃基督所獻於天主之馨香也；蒙救者聞焉、沉淪者亦聞焉；惟於後者實為肅殺之陰氣、而於前者則為令人永生之淑氣耳。嗚呼、誰堪負此重任乎？
