After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

Therefore no fear of me should terrify you, nor should my pressure be heavy on you.

You approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, a mountain ablaze to the sky above it and yet dark with a thick cloud.Then the LORD spoke to you from the middle of the fire; you heard speech but you could not see anything– only a voice was heard.

The LORD passed by before him and proclaimed:“ The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness,

The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. He looked– and the bush was ablaze with fire, but it was not being consumed!

For our God is indeed a devouring fire.

When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking firepot with a flaming torch passed between the animal parts.

Suddenly a sound like a violent wind blowing came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were sitting.

Then fire from the LORD fell from the sky. It consumed the offering, the wood, the stones, and the dirt, and licked up the water in the trench.

Elijah replied to the captain,“ If I am indeed a prophet, may fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty soldiers!” Fire then came down from the sky and consumed him and his fifty soldiers.

Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.”Now when they heard this, they were acutely distressed and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,“ What should we do, brothers?”

As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a fiery chariot pulled by fiery horses appeared. They went between Elijah and Elisha, and Elijah went up to heaven in a windstorm.
