That same day the man of God gave a sign:“ This is the sign the Lord has declared: The altar will be split apart and the ashes on it will be poured out.”

That same day the man of God spoke about a miraculous sign. He said,“ Here is the sign the Lord has announced. This altar will be broken to pieces. The ashes on it will be spilled out.”

And he gave a sign the same day, saying,“ This is the sign that the Lord has spoken:‘ Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes that are on it shall be poured out.’”

That same day the man of God gave a sign to prove his message. He said,“ The Lord has promised to give this sign: This altar will split apart, and its ashes will be poured out on the ground.”

Then he gave a sign on the same day, saying,“ This is the sign which the Lord has spoken:‘ Behold, the altar shall be torn to pieces and the ashes which are on it shall be poured out.’ ”

And he gave a sign the same day, saying,“ This is the sign which the Lord has spoken: Surely the altar shall split apart, and the ashes on it shall be poured out.”

And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which Jehovah hath spoken: Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,

Then he said to him,“ If I have found favor with you, give me a sign that you are speaking with me.

“ Throw it on the ground,” he said. So Moses threw it on the ground, it became a snake, and he ran from it.The LORD told Moses,“ Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail.” So he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand.“ This will take place,” he continued,“ so that they will believe that the LORD, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

So the Jews replied to him,“ What sign will you show us for doing these things?”

And Hezekiah had asked,“ What is the sign that I will go up to the LORD’s temple?”

So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent.

Hezekiah had asked Isaiah,“ What is the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the LORD’s temple on the third day?”

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him,“ Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”He answered them,“ An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.For as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

This will be the sign that will come to you concerning your two sons Hophni and Phinehas: both of them will die on the same day.

And I will rescue you and this city from the grasp of the king of Assyria; I will defend this city.This is the sign to you from the LORD that he will do what he has promised:I am going to make the sun’s shadow that goes down on the stairway of Ahaz go back by ten steps.’” So the sun’s shadow went back the ten steps it had descended.

“ Ask for a sign from the LORD your God— it can be as deep as Sheol or as high as heaven.”But Ahaz replied,“ I will not ask. I will not test the LORD.”Isaiah said,“ Listen, house of David! Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men? Will you also try the patience of my God?Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.

“ If they will not believe you and will not respond to the evidence of the first sign, they may believe the evidence of the second sign.And if they don’t believe even these two signs or listen to what you say, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the Nile will become blood on the ground.”

“ If a prophet or someone who has dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,and that sign or wonder he has promised you comes about, but he says,‘ Let’s follow other gods,’ which you have not known,‘ and let’s worship them,’do not listen to that prophet’s words or to that dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul.

This will be a sign to you’— this is the LORD’s declaration—‘ that I will punish you in this place, so you may know that my words of disaster concerning you will certainly come to pass.
