Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you— although if you can gain your freedom, do so.

Were you a slave when God chose you? Don’t let it trouble you. But if you can get your master to set you free, do it.

Were you a bondservant when called? Do not be concerned about it.( But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.)

Are you a slave? Don’t let that worry you— but if you get a chance to be free, take it.

Were you called while a slave? Don’t let it concern you. But if you can become free, by all means take the opportunity.

若此之人、無希拉、猶太、受割禮、未受割禮、化外、夷狄、為奴、自主之別、惟基督在萬有之上、為萬有之主、○

我眾無論猶太人、希拉人、為奴者、自由者、皆由一神受洗禮、以歸一身、皆飲於一神、

爾為奴者、當凡事敬畏、順服爾主人、不第服善良柔和之主人、亦當服乖僻之主人、人具良心畏天主、受枉而能忍、或作人受屈枉因天主而忍之是為可嘉、爾有罪惡、見撻而能忍、亦何足褒獎、亦何足褒獎或作有何可誇若爾行善、受苦而能忍、則為天主所嘉、爾曹見召、乃為此也、蓋基督亦為爾曹受苦、遺模於爾、使爾踐其跡以行、彼未行惡、口無詭譎、被詬不反詬、受苦不出厲言、惟以己託於公義審判之主、彼懸於木、親身負我眾之罪、使我儕既脫罪若死、則可為義而生、蓋彼受鞭撻、而爾得痊愈、

是以勿求何以食、何以飲、亦勿思慮、

瑪他為供事多而心紛、就耶穌曰、我妹遺我一人供事、主不以為意乎、請命彼助我、耶穌曰、瑪他、瑪他、爾因事多、思慮煩擾、

無分猶太人與希拉人、自主者與為奴者、男與女、蓋爾在基督耶穌、皆一也、

務絕貪婪、以己所有者為足、蓋經載主曰、我必不棄爾、不離爾、

凡服役為奴者、當以凡事敬其主人為宜、免天主之名與教見謗於人、主人若為信道者、毋因其為兄弟而藐視之、必服事之尤勤、蓋受服事之益者乃信道者、蒙愛者、爾當以此訓人勸人、○若有人施教、與此不同、不從我主耶穌基督之正言、及虔敬之訓、

爾當以一切所慮之事託於天主、天主必眷顧爾、

勿憂慮、凡事祈禱、籲懇、感謝、以爾之所求者告天主、

我言此、非因缺乏之故也、蓋我已學、無論何遇、莫不知足、

爾當自慎、勿以饜飫沈湎、及世事之思慮、昏迷爾心、恐其日突然臨爾、
