斯道無他、即天主自始所蘊藏之玄妙、至今始顯示於諸聖、命其弘宣於萬邦者也。斯玄妙乃無窮景福之寶庫、而光榮希望之靈淵；即寓爾心中之基督是也。

吾人仰賴耶穌之神德、得認識以其大榮大德而恩召吾人之天主。於是凡關於立身處世、敬事天主所需之一切、乃應有而盡有矣。

惟天主能堅定爾等信心、使爾等與我所傳之福音及耶穌基督之聖道中、能確立不搖。斯道也、即有世以來所蘊藏之玄妙、今則據先知之書、按天主之聖謨、而揭曉啟示、宣揚於天下萬民令其翕然歸於一信；

此亦所以應驗先知之言曰：『啟口設諭發古之蘊。』

啟脣設譬。發古之蘊。

天主於創世以前、夙在基督之身、予吾人以恩簡、俾吾人得成聖潔無瑕、對越所天。

爾時耶穌又言曰：『頌揚聖父、天地真主！蓋爾隱此道於智巧之人、而啟之於赤子；

然大慈天主、既召爾等與基督同享無窮光榮、一俟爾等略受挫折以後、必將親自予爾等以成全、賜爾等以堅貞、而充爾等以神力也。

爾等讀之、即可見吾於基督之玄妙、實有所悟矣。自有世以來、斯玄妙之旨、未曾啟迪於人。今則已因聖神而明示其諸聖宗徒、及先知先覺之人矣。斯旨無他、即因福音之傳、而萬邦之人、已得於基督耶穌庇蔭之下、同為嗣子、融成一體、共享恩諾是已。天主運用其大能、賜我恩寵、令我得供役於福音。夫我乃諸聖中之至微者、竟亦蒙此殊恩、得在異邦人中弘宣基督不可思議之厚澤、使舉世之人、咸得領會造物主自始隱藏之救世玄謨。

夫天主之救拔吾人、而授吾人以聖召者、初不憑吾人之功績、乃憑其自己之聖意、與夫在基督耶穌身上、夙所賜於吾人之聖寵也。蓋此聖寵之授予、實在萬世以前；

凡厥名自創世以來未錄於被宰羔羊之生命冊者、咸將翕然、景仰此獸。

我乃一長老也、曾目擊基督之受苦蒙難、且於來日將顯之光榮、預有其分焉。吾欲憑此資格、為爾中任長老者進一言。

蓋基督神靈、啟迪先知之衷、故彼等能逆知基督之先苦後樂、與夫其事之成於何時何世。
