於是大衛在大馬色的亞蘭設立了駐防營；亞蘭人就臣服於大衛，帶着貢物而來。大衛無論往哪裏去，永恆主都使他得勝。

看吧，我和你同在，你無論往哪裏去、我必保護你；我必領你回此地來；我必不離棄你，直到我作成了我對你所應許過的事。』

非利士人攻打以色列人；以色列人從非利士人面前逃跑，在基利波山有被刺死倒斃的。非利士人緊緊地追趕掃羅和他兒子們；非利士人擊殺了掃羅的兒子約拿單、亞比拿達、麥基舒亞。戰事很劇烈地擊打了掃羅；射箭的人射中了他；他被弓箭手射傷得極厲害。就對拿軍器的護兵說：『拔出刀來，將我刺透，免得這些沒受割禮的人來刺透我、作弄我。』拿軍器的護兵因為非常懼怕，不情願刺他；掃羅就拿刀，自己伏上。拿軍器的護兵見掃羅已死，他也伏在自己的刀上，和他同死。這樣，掃羅和他的三個兒子、跟拿軍器的護兵、以及所有跟隨的人、就在那一天都一同死了。

然而上帝啊、這在你眼中雖看為小事，你卻說到你僕人家的事至於久遠！永恆主上帝啊，你竟看我有上級人士的地位啊！

大衛在鹽谷擊敗了以東一萬八千人回來以後、就得了大名聲。他又在以東設立駐防營；他在全以東設立了駐防營，全以東就都臣服於大衛。大衛無論往哪裏去，永恆主總使他得勝。

當永恆主援救了大衛脫離他一切仇敵的手掌、脫離掃羅之手、的日子，大衛用以下這首歌詞對永恆主說話。
