撒母耳曰、今日主將以色列之國絕於爾亦如此、以賜他人、善於爾者、

今爾國不永、主已得一人、合乎其心、命為己民之君、因爾不守主所諭爾之命、

謂撒母耳曰、爾為掃羅而憂、伊於何底、我已棄之、不容其為以色列王、今以膏盛於角、我將遣爾至伯利恆人耶西家、我於其眾子中選其一、立之為王、

主必循其託我所言者而行、由爾手奪國、以賜他人、即大衛也、

掃羅問於主、主不之應、又祈夢、問烏陵、問先知、俱不得指示、

主諭以色列人曰、我豈未曾救爾於伊及人、亞摩利人、亞捫人、非利士人乎、昔西頓人、亞瑪力人、瑪雲人、虐待爾、爾籲我時、我亦救爾脫於其手、乃爾棄我、服事他神、故我不復救爾、爾所選之神、爾往籲之、爾遭難時、使彼救爾、以色列人禱主曰、我已犯罪、任主懲責、惟求主今日救我、遂從其中除外邦之神、而奉事主、主因以色列人困苦已極、中心不忍、

備戰之將士、至希伯崙見大衛、欲循主所命、以掃羅之國位歸大衛、其數如左、

我押尼珥若不循主所誓於大衛者、為大衛而行、則願主從重罰我、必移國於掃羅家、建立大衛位、治理以色列及猶大、自但至別是巴、

撒母耳問耶西曰、爾子悉在此乎、曰、尚有季子、今乃牧羊、撒母耳謂耶西曰、遣人召之、我儕不席坐、待其來此、遂遣人召之來、其面赤色、雙目清秀、身材俊美、主曰、此人是也、起而膏之、撒母耳取角中之膏、膏之於其諸兄間、自此日後、主之神感大衛、撒母耳啟行、歸拉瑪、

惟亞述王不如是思維、心中不如是意念、乃欲毀滅諸國、欲殄絕淨盡、

以惡報善者、災害不離其家、

人子、斯人心念其偶像、以陷己於罪之物、置於目前、彼又求問我、我豈應之乎、故爾當告之曰、主天主如是云、凡以色列族之人、心念其偶像、以陷已於罪之物、置於目前、如來就先知、我耶和華必因其拜多偶像之罪譴責之、必因其拜多偶像之罪譴責之原文作必循其眾多之偶像而應之欲露露或作闡明以色列族之心意、原文作欲執以色列族於心中因彼俱離棄我、崇拜偶像、故爾當告以色列族曰、主天主如是云、爾曹當悔改、轉離偶像、勿崇事勿崇事原文作面不向、可憎之物、轉離偶像勿崇事可憎之物或作棄偶像而歸誠轉離可憎之物

於是以色列諸長老至希伯崙見王、大衛王在希伯崙、與之立約於主前、諸長老膏大衛立為以色列王、

斧豈可向用斧伐木者自誇乎、鋸豈可向用鋸者自矜乎、梃豈能舉舉梃者乎、木杖豈能舉非木之人乎、
