Lord of the Sabbath
1On a Sabbath, he passed through the grainfields.6:1–5 Mt 12:1–8; Mk 2:23–28 His disciples were picking heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.
3Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David and those who were with him did when he was hungry —
4how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?6:4 Ex 25:30; Lv 24:5–9 He even gave some to those who were with him.”6:4 1Sm 21:6
5Then he told them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6On another Sabbath6:6–11 Mt 12:9–14; Mk 3:1–6 he entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was shriveled.
7The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely,6:7 Mk 3:2; Lk 14:1; 20:20 to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.6:7 Jn 8:6

9Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” 6:9 Lk 14:3

11They, however, were filled with rage and started discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.

30Give to everyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don’t ask for them back.
