Some of the Pharisees asked,“ Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”

Some of the Pharisees said,“ It is against the Law to do this on the Sabbath day. Why are you doing it?”

But some of the Pharisees said,“ Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?”

But some Pharisees said,“ Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”

But certain of the Pharisees said, Why do ye that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath day?

“ If you keep from desecrating the Sabbath, from doing whatever you want on my holy day; if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, seeking your own pleasure, or talking business;

The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely, to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.But he knew their thoughts and told the man with the shriveled hand,“ Get up and stand here.” So he got up and stood there.Then Jesus said to them,“ I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”

“ When a man gives his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any other animal to care for, but it dies, is injured, or is stolen, while no one is watching,

Then they said to him,“ John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink.”

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, but gulp down a camel!

“ Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat.”

Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD. Anyone who does work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.

While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the entire community.They placed him in custody because it had not been decided what should be done to him.Then the LORD told Moses,“ The man is to be put to death. The entire community is to stone him outside the camp.”

The day that Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes was a Sabbath.Then the Pharisees asked him again how he received his sight.“ He put mud on my eyes,” he told them.“ I washed and I can see.”Some of the Pharisees said,“ This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying,“ How can a sinful man perform such signs?” And there was a division among them.
