So Pilate asked Him, Mt 27:11; Mk 15:2 “Are You the King of the Jews? ” Mt 2:2; Lk 23:37-38; Jn 18:39; 19:3
He answered him, “You have said it.” Or That is true ; an affirmative oath
Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no grounds Mt 27:24; Lk 23:14,22; Jn 19:4,6; 1Pt 2:22 for charging this man.”
But they kept insisting, “He stirs up the people, Ac 17:5-8,13 teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee Mt 4:12,23; Lk 4:14; Jn 1:43; 2:11 where He started even to here.”

and said to them, “You have brought me this man as one who subverts the people. Lk 23:2 But in fact, after examining Him in your presence, I have found no grounds Lk 23:4 to charge this man with those things you accuse Him of.
Neither has Herod, because he sent Him back to us. Clearly, He has done nothing to deserve death.
Therefore, I will have Him whipped Gk paideuo; to discipline or “teach a lesson”; 1Kg 12:11,14 LXX; 2Ch 10:11,14; perhaps a way of referring to the Roman scourging; Lat flagellatio Jn 19:1; Ac 5:40 and then release Him.”

but they kept shouting, “Crucify! Crucify Him! ”
A third time he said to them, “Why? What has this man done wrong? Jn 8:46 I have found in Him no grounds Lk 23:4 for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have Him whipped and then release Him.”
