Before that time there were no wages for people or hire for animals. No one could go about their business safely because of their enemies, since I had turned everyone against their neighbor.

Before the work was started again, there was no pay for the people. And there was no money to rent animals. People could not go about their business safely because of their enemies. I had turned all of them against one another.

For before those days there was no wage for man or any wage for beast, neither was there any safety from the foe for him who went out or came in, for I set every man against his neighbor.

那时你们怎样呢？有人到谷堆来，想得两百公斤谷，却只得一百公斤；有人到榨酒池去，想从酒槽得一百公升酒，却只得四十公升。耶和华说：‘我用旱风、霉烂和冰雹击打你们，和你们手里的一切工作，你们还是不归向我。你们要反省，从今日起回想过往，就是自九月二十四日起，从耶和华殿的奠基日开始，你们要反省：

我要激动埃及人去攻击埃及人，他们就相争起来，各人攻击自己的兄弟，各人攻击自己的邻舍，城攻击城；国攻击国。

如果他们被仇敌掳去，就是在那里，我必命令刀剑杀死他们；我必定睛在他们身上，降祸不降福。”

“你们不要以为我来了，是要给地上带来和平；我并没有带来和平，却带来刀剑，因为我来了是要叫人分裂：人与父亲作对，女儿与母亲作对，媳妇与婆婆作对，人的仇敌就是自己的家人。

那时，出入的人都没有平安，因为各国的居民都遭遇动乱。这国攻击那国，这城攻击那城，因为神用各样灾难使他们纷乱。但你们要坚强，不要胆怯，因为你们所行的，必有赏报。”

在打水的地方分开羊群的人发声，在那里人必歌颂耶和华公义的作为，就是他在以色列中的农村所行公义的作为；那时，耶和华的子民下到城门口。

“看哪！我要差人去叫许多渔夫来，捕捉以色列人；然后我要差人去叫许多猎人来，从各大山、小山和岩石的裂缝里，猎取他们。”这是耶和华的宣告。

在亚拿的儿子珊迦的时候，在雅亿的日子，大道无人行走，行路的人绕道而行。以色列中的农村消失了，消失了，直到我底波拉兴起，直到我以色列的母亲兴起。

你们撒的种多，收割的却少；你们吃，却吃不饱；你们喝，却喝不足；你们穿衣服，却穿不暖；得工钱的，却把工钱放在破袋里。”万军之耶和华这样说：“你们要反省自己的行为。你们要上山取木材，建造殿宇；我必因此喜悦，并且得荣耀。”耶和华说：“你们期望丰收，反倒歉收；你们收到家里的，我就吹去。”为什么呢？万军之耶和华说：“因为我的殿宇荒废，你们各人却为自己的房屋奔驰。所以，因你们的缘故，天就不降甘露，地也不出土产。我叫干旱临到大地、群山、五谷、新酒、新油、地上的出产、人畜和人手劳碌得来的一切。”
