“ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another.

「萬軍之耶和華如此說：『你們要施行真理的審判，各人要以恩慈和憐憫對待自己的兄弟。

萬軍之耶和華云、當以公正行鞫、以仁慈矜憫相待、

我萬有之主耶和華曰、當秉公義、矜憫為懷、相待以仁、

萬有之主曾如是諭爾列祖曰、爾決是非、當秉公義、以仁慈相待、互相矜憫、

“ This is what the Lord Almighty said:‘ Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.

Here is what the Lord who rules over all said to his people.“ Treat everyone with justice. Show mercy and tender concern to one another.

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another,

“ The LORD of Armies says this:‘ Make fair decisions. Show faithful love and compassion to one another.

“ This is what the Lord of armies has said:‘ Dispense true justice and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother;

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts:‘ Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother.

Thus hath Jehovah of hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother;

“ The Lord of Hosts says this: Make fair decisions. Show faithful love and compassion to one another.

Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

“ The LORD who rules over all said,‘ Exercise true judgment and show brotherhood and compassion to each other.

“ Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying,‘ Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.

No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

This is what the Lord says to the dynasty of David:“‘ Give justice each morning to the people you judge! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Otherwise, my anger will burn like an unquenchable fire because of all your sins.

The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.

He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.

“ What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law— justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

“ How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked? Interlude“ Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.

“ For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Enough, you princes of Israel! Stop your violence and oppression and do what is just and right. Quit robbing and cheating my people out of their land. Stop expelling them from their homes, says the Sovereign Lord.

“ Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?” he asked.

There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,and you say,“ Good bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”— but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice;

But this is what you must do: Tell the truth to each other. Render verdicts in your courts that are just and that lead to peace.Don’t scheme against each other. Stop your love of telling lies that you swear are the truth. I hate all these things, says the Lord.”

I said,‘ Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’“ But you have cultivated wickedness and harvested a thriving crop of sins. You have eaten the fruit of lies— trusting in your military might, believing that great armies could make your nation safe.

Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.

This is what I told them:‘ Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’

“ Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight, or volume.Your scales and weights must be accurate. Your containers for measuring dry materials or liquids must be accurate. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt.“ You must be careful to keep all of my decrees and regulations by putting them into practice. I am the Lord.”

“ No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people.Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.“ Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.Then when you call, the Lord will answer.‘ Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.“ Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.

Isn’t this the same message the Lord proclaimed through the prophets in years past when Jerusalem and the towns of Judah were bustling with people, and the Negev and the foothills of Judah were well populated?’”

“ What sorrow awaits you Pharisees! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

“ Appoint judges and officials for yourselves from each of your tribes in all the towns the Lord your God is giving you. They must judge the people fairly.You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the godly.Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

“ Do not twist justice in legal matters by favoring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly.

“ But if there are any poor Israelites in your towns when you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard hearted or tightfisted toward them.Instead, be generous and lend them whatever they need.Do not be mean spirited and refuse someone a loan because the year for canceling debts is close at hand. If you refuse to make the loan and the needy person cries out to the Lord, you will be considered guilty of sin.Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need.“ If a fellow Hebrew sells himself or herself to be your servant and serves you for six years, in the seventh year you must set that servant free.“ When you release a male servant, do not send him away empty handed.Give him a generous farewell gift from your flock, your threshing floor, and your winepress. Share with him some of the bounty with which the Lord your God has blessed you.
