你要提醒他們這些事，在神面前鄭重地勸誡他們：不可在言詞上爭執，那是毫無益處的，只會敗壞聽見的人。

要拒絕愚拙無知的辯論，因為你知道這些只會引起爭鬥，

至於那些不敬神的空談，你們要避免，因為說這些話的人將導致更多不敬神的事；

不去聽從猶太人編造的故事，以及背棄真理之人的命令。

至於那些不敬神的、像老婦人所編造的故事，你要拒絕。為了敬神，要操練自己，

關於祭過偶像的食物，我們知道「我們都有知識。」知識使人自我膨脹，但是愛能造就人。

我往馬其頓省去的時候，曾經勸你繼續留在以弗所，好讓你吩咐某些人不可傳講別的教義，也不可關注那些編造的故事和無窮的家譜：這些事只帶來疑惑，而無助於神所賜的信仰上的任務。這樣吩咐的目的是愛。愛是發自潔淨的心、無愧的良心，以及不虛假的信仰。有些人偏離了這些，轉向了虛妄的話，想要做律法教師，卻不明白自己所講的，或所強調的是為了什麼。

如果我有做先知傳道的恩賜，也明白一切奧祕、一切知識，並有全備的信，以致能移山，卻沒有愛，我就一無所是；
