His grace teaches us to say no to godless ways and sinful desires. We must control ourselves. We must do what is right. We must lead godly lives in today’s world.

And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

( I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Realize that the LORD shows the godly special favor; the LORD responds when I cry out to him.

Seek the LORD while he makes himself available; call to him while he is nearby!The wicked need to abandon their lifestyle and sinful people their plans. They should return to the LORD, and he will show mercy to them, and to their God, for he will freely forgive them.

The one who says he resides in God ought himself to walk just as Jesus walked.

This requires the steadfast endurance of the saints– those who obey God’s commandments and hold to their faith in Jesus.

For our reason for confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity which are from God– not by human wisdom but by the grace of God– we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more toward you.

Like obedient children, do not comply with the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance,but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct,for it is written,“ You shall be holy, because I am holy.”And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence here in reverence.You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed– not by perishable things like silver or gold,

Through these things he has bestowed on us his precious and most magnificent promises, so that by means of what was promised you may become partakers of the divine nature, after escaping the worldly corruption that is produced by evil desire.For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith excellence, to excellence, knowledge;to knowledge, self- control; to self- control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness;to godliness, brotherly affection; to brotherly affection, unselfish love.For if these things are really yours and are continually increasing, they will keep you from becoming ineffective and unproductive in your pursuit of knowing our Lord Jesus Christ more intimately.

You were taught with reference to your former way of life to lay aside the old man who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires,to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,and to put on the new man who has been created in God’s image– in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth.Therefore, having laid aside falsehood, each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

For God did not call us to impurity but in holiness.

For if after they have escaped the filthy things of the world through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again get entangled in them and succumb to them, their last state has become worse for them than their first.For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.They are illustrations of this true proverb:“ A dog returns to its own vomit,” and“ A sow, after washing herself, wallows in the mire.”

– if so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from their trials, and to reserve the unrighteous for punishment at the day of judgment,

“ And there will be no need at all for each one to teach his countryman or each one to teach his brother saying,‘ Know the Lord,’ since they will all know me, from the least to the greatest.

in which you formerly lived according to this world’s present path, according to the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the ruler of the spirit that is now energizing the sons of disobedience,

They were both righteous in the sight of God, following all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly.

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God.

While Paul was discussing righteousness, self- control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said,“ Go away for now, and when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and make your hearts pure, you double- minded.Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter into mourning and your joy into despair.Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.

( for if you live according to the flesh, you will die), but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live.

So anyone who breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever obeys them and teaches others to do so will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. So then we must lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the weapons of light.Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.

Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life.For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be united in the likeness of his resurrection.We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but that you keep them safe from the evil one.

Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God– what is good and well- pleasing and perfect.

Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,and maintain good conduct among the non- Christians, so that though they now malign you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God when he appears.

who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father,

Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.

Since all these things are to melt away in this manner, what sort of people must we be, conducting our lives in holiness and godliness,

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.Some of you once lived this way. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

but now he has reconciled you by his physical body through death to present you holy, without blemish, and blameless before him–

This is the reason I do my best to always have a clear conscience toward God and toward people.

in that he spends the rest of his time on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.For the time that has passed was sufficient for you to do what the non- Christians desire. You lived then in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking bouts, and wanton idolatries.So they are astonished when you do not rush with them into the same flood of wickedness, and they vilify you.They will face a reckoning before Jesus Christ who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.

Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”So the crowds were asking him,“ What then should we do?”John answered them,“ The person who has two tunics must share with the person who has none, and the person who has food must do likewise.”Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him,“ Teacher, what should we do?”He told them,“ Collect no more than you are required to.”

Now on the topic of brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.

For he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we may be holy and unblemished in his sight in love.

I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me,

Suppose I say to the wicked,‘ You must certainly die,’ but he turns from his sin and does what is just and right.He returns what was taken in pledge, pays back what he has stolen, and follows the statutes that give life, committing no iniquity. He will certainly live– he will not die.

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to various passions and desires, spending our lives in evil and envy, hateful and hating one another.

So put to deat h whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry.Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.You also lived your lives in this way at one time, when you used to live among them.But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices

Therefore produce fruit that proves your repentance,and don’t think you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires,

When they found him on the other side of the lake, they said to him,“ Rabbi, when did you get here?”

For Demas deserted me, since he loved the present age, and he went to Thessalonica. Crescens went to Galatia and Titus to Dalmatia.

For they said to you,“ In the end time there will come scoffers, propelled by their own ungodly desires.”

so that they might keep his commands and obey his laws. Praise the LORD!

“ Therefore I will judge each person according to his conduct, O house of Israel, declares the sovereign LORD. Repent and turn from all your wickedness; then it will not be an obstacle leading to iniquity.Throw away all your sins you have committed and fashion yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why should you die, O house of Israel?
