蓋監督必無可責、如上帝家宰、不自恃、不輕怒、不酗酒、不毆擊、不黷貨、

會督必無間然、為上帝家宰、不偏執、不易怒、勿酗、勿競、非義之利勿取、

伊毘司可普、伊毘司可普見腓立比一章一節小註既為天主之家宰、當無可責、不偏執、不遽怒、不好酒、不毆擊、不貪財、

蓋司牧乃天主之家宰、是宜無懈可擊、毋剛愎自用、毋暴氣動怒。凡嗜酒毆人、貪婪財貨、皆非所宜。

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self willed, not quick tempered, not overindulging in wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

For the bishop must be blameless, as God’s steward; not self- willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;

especially those who follow the polluting desires of the flesh and despise authority. Bold, arrogant people! They do not tremble when they blaspheme the glorious ones;

Shepherd God’s flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but freely, according to God’s will; not for the money but eagerly;

The Lord said:“ Who then is the faithful and sensible manager his master will put in charge of his household servants to give them their allotted food at the proper time?

Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.

And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit:

These also stagger because of wine and stumble under the influence of beer: priest and prophet stagger because of beer, they are confused by wine. They stumble because of beer, they are muddled in their visions, they stumble in their judgments.

“ You and your sons are not to drink wine or beer when you enter the tent of meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute throughout your generations.

No priest may drink wine before he enters the inner court.

Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus: To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons.

Israel’s watchmen are blind, all of them, they know nothing; all of them are mute dogs, they cannot bark; they dream, lie down, and love to sleep.These dogs have fierce appetites; they never have enough. And they are shepherds who have no discernment; all of them turn to their own way, every last one for his own gain.“ Come, let me get some wine, let’s guzzle some beer; and tomorrow will be like today, only far better!”

My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger,for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.

A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a man who schemes is hated.

Don’t let your spirit rush to be angry, for anger abides in the heart of fools.

A person should consider us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of God’s mysteries.In this regard, it is expected of managers that each one of them be found faithful.

This saying is trustworthy:“ If anyone aspires to be an overseer, he desires a noble work.”An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher,not addicted to wine, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy—one who manages his own household competently, having his children under control with all dignity.( If anyone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of God’s church?)He must not be a new convert, or he might become conceited and fall into the condemnation of the Devil.Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the Devil’s trap.Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money,holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.And they must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons.Wives, too, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything.Deacons must be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently.For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient,instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth.

May I never enter their council; may I never join their assembly. For in their anger they kill men, and on a whim they hamstring oxen.

In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good,

A hot-tempered man stirs up conflict, but a man slow to anger calms strife.

The reason I left you in Crete was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders in every town:

Patience is better than power, and controlling one’s temper, than capturing a city.

It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to desire beer.Otherwise, they will drink, forget what is decreed, and pervert justice for all the oppressed.
