“ My beloved responded and said to me,‘ Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along.

For before the harvest, as soon as the bud blossoms And the flower becomes a ripening grape, He will cut off the shoots with pruning knives, And remove and tear away the spreading branches.

And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—for He says,“ At a favorable time I listened to you, And on a day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is“ a favorable time,” behold, now is“ a day of salvation”—

His shoots will sprout, His majesty will be like the olive tree, And his fragrance like the cedars of Lebanon.

For as the earth produces its sprouts, And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise To spring up before all the nations.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Come, my beloved, let’s go out to the country, Let’s spend the night in the villages.Let’s rise early and go to the vineyards; Let’s see whether the vine has grown And its buds have opened, And whether the pomegranates have bloomed. There I will give you my love.The mandrakes have given forth fragrance; And over our doors are all delicious fruits, New as well as old, Which I have saved for you, my beloved.

And He began telling this parable:“ A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any.And he said to the vineyard keeper,‘ Look! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?’

saying,“ If you had known on this day, even you, the conditions for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.

I said,‘ I will climb the palm tree, I will grasp its fruit stalks.’ Oh, may your breasts be like clusters of the vine, And the fragrance of your breath like apples,

Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree, it has not produced fruit. Yet from this day on I will bless you.’ ”

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it produce and sprout, And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.

I went down to the orchard of nut trees To see the plants of the valley, To see whether the vine had grown Or the pomegranates had bloomed.

“ Now learn the parable from the fig tree: as soon as its branch has become tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near;
