The strength to go on produces character. Character produces hope.

Blessed[ is] the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.And whether we be afflicted,[ it is] for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted,[ it is] for your consolation and salvation.

But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.

When the wicked,[ even] mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this[ will] I[ be] confident.

Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto[ this] generation,[ and] thy power to every one[ that] is to come.Thy righteousness also, O God,[ is] very high, who hast done great things: O God, who[ is] like unto thee![ Thou], which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.I will also praise thee with the psaltery,[ even] thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
