A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.

There is more hope for fools than for people who think they are wise.

I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters, so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.

“‘ How can you say,“ We are wise because we have the word of the Lord,” when your teachers have twisted it by writing lies?These wise teachers will fall into the trap of their own foolishness, for they have rejected the word of the Lord. Are they so wise after all?

As the Scriptures say,“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.

The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge! The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make, for their carefully shaped works are a fraud. These idols have no breath or power.

“ You felt secure in your wickedness.‘ No one sees me,’ you said. But your‘ wisdom’ and‘ knowledge’ have led you astray, and you said,‘ I am the only one, and there is no other.’

But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!

Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise.For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say,“ He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.”
