You answered them, Yahweh our God. You are a God who forgave them, although you took vengeance for their doings.

His offspring shall possess it.Since the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley, tomorrow turn and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,“ How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that complain against me? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel, which they complain against me.Tell them,‘ As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,surely you shall not come into the land concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.But I will bring your little ones that you said should be captured or killed in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’

“ Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.Yahweh was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”Yahweh struck the people, because of what they did with the calf, which Aaron made.

Behold, I have only found this: that God made man upright; but they search for many schemes.”

I said,“ Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won’t be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her.” But they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

But Yahweh was angry with me because of you, and didn’t listen to me. Yahweh said to me,“ That is enough! Speak no more to me of this matter.

Aaron said to them,“ Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”

While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, Yahweh’s anger burned against the people, and Yahweh struck the people with a very great plague.The name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted.
