then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from a trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,

Should good be repaid with evil? For they have dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You To speak good in their behalf, So as to turn Your wrath away from them.

Consequently, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,and saying,“ Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue just as they were from the beginning of creation.”For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,through which the world at that time was destroyed by being flooded with water.But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

May a cry be heard from their houses When You suddenly bring raiders upon them; For they have dug a pit to capture me And hidden snares for my feet.

Come, my people, enter your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course.For behold, the Lord is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their wrongdoing; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain.

When He keeps quiet, who can condemn? And when He hides His face, who then can look at Him, That is, regarding both nation and a person?—

and they cried out with a loud voice, saying,“ How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who live on the earth?”And a white robe was given to each of them; and they were told that they were to rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, was completed also.

Why should I fear in days of adversity, When the injustice of those who betray me surrounds me,

And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us, when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angelsin flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
