The wicked are trapped by their own words, but the godly escape such trouble.

And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after you. I have planned this in order to display my glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. After this the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord!” So the Israelites camped there as they were told.

“ Then the generations to come, both your own descendants and the foreigners who come from distant lands, will see the devastation of the land and the diseases the Lord inflicts on it.They will exclaim,‘ The whole land is devastated by sulfur and salt. It is a wasteland with nothing planted and nothing growing, not even a blade of grass. Why was he so angry?’“ And the answer will be,‘ This happened because the people of the land abandoned the covenant that the Lord, the God of their ancestors, made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.Instead, they turned away to serve and worship gods they had not known before, gods that were not from the Lord.That is why the Lord’s anger has burned against this land, bringing down on it every curse recorded in this book.In great anger and fury the Lord uprooted his people from their land and banished them to another land, where they still live today!’

But the Lord killed seventy men from Beth shemesh because they looked into the Ark of the Lord. And the people mourned greatly because of what the Lord had done.“ Who is able to stand in the presence of the Lord, this holy God?” they cried out.“ Where can we send the Ark from here?”

As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord,

Many will stumble and fall, never to rise again. They will be snared and captured.”

O Lord, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning.

Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace.Then they will learn that you alone are called the Lord, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth.

When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians, they were filled with awe before him. They put their faith in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

He will rain down blazing coals and burning sulfur on the wicked, punishing them with scorching winds.

The godly will rejoice when they see injustice avenged. They will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked.Then at last everyone will say,“ There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth.”

Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.

Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice. Let all the towns of Judah be glad because of your justice.

For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.

if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said—

Adoni bezek said,“ I once had seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off, eating scraps from under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.” They took him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
