When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say:

He gave it as a covenant law for the people of Joseph. It was given when God went out to punish Egypt. There I heard a voice I didn’t recognize.

He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known:

He made it a law for Israel when he attacked Egypt to set us free. I heard an unknown voice say,

He set it up as an ordinance for Joseph when He went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard an unfamiliar language:

This he ordained in Joseph[ for] a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt:[ where] I heard a language[ that] I understood not.

He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize.

He appointed it in Joseph for a covenant, when he went out over the land of Egypt, I heard a language that I didn’t know.

When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue, (niv)

The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, (niv)

In the Law it is written:“ With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.”Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. People of Israel,” declares the Lord,“ I am bringing a distant nation against you— an ancient and enduring nation, a people whose language you do not know, whose speech you do not understand. (niv)

These are the stipulations, decrees and laws Moses gave them when they came out of Egypt (niv)

Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people, (niv)

You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph. (niv)

“ On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. (niv)

On that day tell your son,‘ I do this because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that this law of the Lord is to be on your lips. For the Lord brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand. (niv)

so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. (niv)

Keep my Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.” (niv)

“ In days to come, when your son asks you,‘ What does this mean?’ say to him,‘ With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed the firstborn of both people and animals in Egypt. This is why I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn sons.’And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead that the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand.” (niv)
