When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say:

He gave it as a covenant law for the people of Joseph. It was given when God went out to punish Egypt. There I heard a voice I didn’t recognize.

He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known:

He made it a law for Israel when he attacked Egypt to set us free. I heard an unknown voice say,

He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony, When he went out over the land of Egypt, Where I heard a language that I knew not.

This he ordained in Joseph[ for] a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt:[ where] I heard a language[ that] I understood not.

He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize.

He appointed it in Joseph for a covenant, when he went out over the land of Egypt, I heard a language that I didn’t know.

When Israel came out of Egypt— the house of Jacob from a people who spoke a foreign language—

The Lord will bring a nation from far away, from the ends of the earth, to swoop down on you like an eagle, a nation whose language you don’t understand,

It is written in the law: I will speak to these people by people of other languages and by the lips of foreigners, and even then, they will not listen to Me, says the Lord.It follows that speaking in other languages is intended as a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers. But prophecy is not for unbelievers but for believers.

I am about to bring a nation from far away against you, house of Israel. This is the Lord’s declaration. It is an established nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know and whose speech you do not understand.

With power You redeemed Your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

So Moses said,“ This is what Yahweh says:‘ About midnight I will go throughout Egypt,

Listen, Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned on the cherubim, rise upbefore Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Rally Your power and come to save us.

These are the decrees, statutes, and ordinances Moses proclaimed to them after they came out of Egypt,

So He will speak to this people with stammering speech and in a foreign language.

They drink wine by the bowlful and anoint themselves with the finest oils but do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.

“ I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night and strike every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both man and beast. I am Yahweh; I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt.

Now at midnight the Lord struck every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the dungeon, and every firstborn of the livestock.

you are to reply,‘ It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, for He passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and spared our homes.’” So the people bowed down and worshiped.

On that day explain to your son,‘ This is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’Let it serve as a sign for you on your hand and as a reminder on your forehead, so that the Lord’s instruction may be in your mouth; for the Lord brought you out of Egypt with a strong hand.

so that a future generation— children yet to be born— might know. They were to rise and tell their children

Keep My Sabbaths holy, and they will be a sign between Me and you, so you may know that I am Yahweh your God.

“ In the future, when your son asks you,‘ What does this mean?’ say to him,‘ By the strength of His hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of man to the firstborn of livestock. That is why I sacrifice to the Lord all the firstborn of the womb that are males, but I redeem all the firstborn of my sons.’So let it be a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead, for the Lord brought us out of Egypt by the strength of His hand.”
