When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.

When the earth and all its people tremble, I keep everything from falling to pieces.

When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah

He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill to make them sit with princes and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh’s. He has set the world on them.

The earth is utterly broken. The earth is torn apart. The earth is shaken violently.

The women sang to one another as they played, and said,“ Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”

so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

God, you have rejected us. You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.You have made the land tremble. You have torn it. Mend its fractures, for it quakes.You have shown your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.

In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led Israel out and in. Yahweh said to you,‘ You will be shepherd of my people Israel, and you will be prince over Israel.’”

His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, who, when he had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants.It will be as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest.The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste; for Yahweh has spoken this word.The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish.The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.The new wine mourns. The vine languishes. All the merry- hearted sigh.The mirth of tambourines ceases. The sound of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases.They will not drink wine with a song. Strong drink will be bitter to those who drink it.The confused city is broken down. Every house is shut up, that no man may come in.There is a crying in the streets because of the wine. All joy is darkened. The mirth of the land is gone.The city is left in desolation, and the gate is struck with destruction.

Yahweh says,“ I have answered you in an acceptable time. I have helped you in a day of salvation. I will preserve you and give you for a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage,

Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Yahweh will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights Yahweh’s battles. Evil will not be found in you all your days.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.The Philistines overtook Saul and on his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers.Then Saul said to his armor bearer,“ Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me!” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died with him.So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, that same day together.When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
