世間人無論尊卑、皆屬虛妄、若置之權衡、必然浮起、悉輕於虛空、悉輕於虛空或作比呼吸之氣尤輕

吾民其恃主。向主披肺腑。雖在危厄終必安。主是吾人停泊所。

Surely ordinary people are only a breath. Important people are not what they seem to be. If they were weighed on a scale, they wouldn’t amount to anything. Together they are only a breath.

Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath.

Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air.

Common people are only a vapor; important people, an illusion. Together on a scale, they weigh less than a vapor.

People of low standing are only breath, and people of rank are a lie; In the balances they go up. Together they are lighter than breath.

Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor.

Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: In the balances they will go up; They are together lighter than vanity.

Men are only a vapor; exalted men, an illusion. Weighed in the scales, they go up; together they are less than a vapor.

Surely men of low degree[ are] vanity,[ and] men of high degree[ are] a lie: to be laid in the balance, they[ are] altogether[ lighter] than vanity.

Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air.

Surely men of low degree are just a breath, and men of high degree are a lie. In the balances they will go up. They are together lighter than a breath.

You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.

Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

Before him all the nations are as nothing; they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

When you rebuke and discipline anyone for their sin, you consume their wealth like a moth— surely everyone is but a breath.

Again David asked,“ Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord said,“ They will.”

“ I will give her to him,” he thought,“ so that she may be a snare to him and so that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David,“ Now you have a second opportunity to become my son-in-law.”Then Saul ordered his attendants:“ Speak to David privately and say,‘ Look, the king likes you, and his attendants all love you; now become his son- in- law.’”They repeated these words to David. But David said,“ Do you think it is a small matter to become the king’s son-in-law? I’m only a poor man and little known.”When Saul’s servants told him what David had said,Saul replied,“ Say to David,‘ The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.’” Saul’s plan was to have David fall by the hands of the Philistines.When the attendants told David these things, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. So before the allotted time elapsed,

The Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah and said,“ Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah, south of Jeshimon?Now, Your Majesty, come down whenever it pleases you to do so, and we will be responsible for giving him into your hands.”

Now David had been told,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” So David prayed,“ Lord, turn Ahithophel’s counsel into foolishness.”

Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written:“ So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”

Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the people of Israel.

in my alarm I said,“ Everyone is a liar.”

Whatever mission Saul sent him on, David was so successful that Saul gave him a high rank in the army. This pleased all the troops, and Saul’s officers as well.

Then Saul said,“ I have sinned. Come back, David my son. Because you considered my life precious today, I will not try to harm you again. Surely I have acted like a fool and have been terribly wrong.”“ Here is the king’s spear,” David answered.“ Let one of your young men come over and get it.The Lord rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.As surely as I valued your life today, so may the Lord value my life and deliver me from all trouble.”Then Saul said to David,“ May you be blessed, David my son; you will do great things and surely triumph.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.

But they shouted,“ Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”“ Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.“ We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.

As they danced, they sang:“ Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,“ Hosanna to the Son of David!”“ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”“ Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend,with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers.
