“ Are you afraid of these idols? Do they terrify you? Is that why you have lied to me and forgotten me and my words? Is it because of my long silence that you no longer fear me?

Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.But even though a person sins a hundred times and still lives a long time, I know that those who fear God will be better off.

So don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time— before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

“ The Lord isn’t looking,” they say,“ and besides, the God of Israel doesn’t care.”Think again, you fools! When will you finally catch on?Is he deaf— the one who made your ears? Is he blind— the one who formed your eyes?He punishes the nations— won’t he also punish you? He knows everything— doesn’t he also know what you are doing?The Lord knows people’s thoughts; he knows they are worthless!

God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him.

He will say,“ I have long been silent; yes, I have restrained myself. But now, like a woman in labor, I will cry and groan and pant.

Now the Lord has sworn this oath by his own name, the Pride of Israel:“ I will never forget the wicked things you have done!

I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

God replied to Moses,“ I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.”

“ What does God know?” they ask.“ Does the Most High even know what’s happening?”

No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.All the wood in Lebanon’s forests and all Lebanon’s animals would not be enough to make a burnt offering worthy of our God.The nations of the world are worth nothing to him. In his eyes they count for less than nothing— mere emptiness and froth.To whom can you compare God? What image can you find to resemble him?

O God, whom I praise, don’t stand silent and aloofwhile the wicked slander me and tell lies about me.They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason.

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

Your kindness to the wicked does not make them do good. Although others do right, the wicked keep doing wrong and take no notice of the Lord’s majesty.

I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer.
