我見惡人勢盛、張大如青葱之樹、在其本土兮、

我見惡者強暴、蔓衍葱蘢、若茂樹兮、

我曾見強暴之惡人興旺、如根深葉茂之大樹、

曾見惡勢張。葱翠如春林。

I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a luxuriant native tree,

I saw a mean and sinful person. He was doing well, like a green tree in its own land.

I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree.

I have seen wicked and ruthless people flourishing like a tree in its native soil.

I have seen a wicked, violent person well-rooted, like a flourishing native tree.

Wherefore do the wicked live, Become old, yea, wax mighty in power?Their seed is established with them in their sight, And their offspring before their eyes.Their houses are safe from fear, Neither is the rod of God upon them.Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; Their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.They send forth their little ones like a flock, And their children dance.They sing to the timbrel and harp, And rejoice at the sound of the pipe.They spend their days in prosperity, And in a moment they go down to Sheol.And they say unto God, Depart from us; For we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?Lo, their prosperity is not in their hand: The counsel of the wicked is far from me.How oft is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? That their calamity cometh upon them? That God distributeth sorrows in his anger?

So are the paths of all that forget God; And the hope of the godless man shall perish:Whose confidence shall break in sunder, And whose trust is a spider’s web.He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: He shall hold fast thereby, but it shall not endure.He is green before the sun, And his shoots go forth over his garden.His roots are wrapped about the stone- heap, He beholdeth the place of stones.If he be destroyed from his place, Then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.Behold, this is the joy of his way; And out of the earth shall others spring.

For I was envious at the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.For there are no pangs in their death; But their strength is firm.They are not in trouble as other men; Neither are they plagued like other men.Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; Violence covereth them as a garment.Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression: They speak loftily.They have set their mouth in the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth.Therefore his people return hither: And waters of a full cup are drained by them.And they say, How doth God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?
