He is not enamored with the strength of a horse, nor is he impressed by the warrior’s strong legs.

不喜馬力、不悅人股兮、

維馬有力、人能疾趨、主不以為悅兮、

馬有大力、非主所悅、人能疾行、非主所喜、

戰馬徒有力。佳兵安足恃。戰馬與佳兵。皆非主所喜。

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;

He doesn’t take pleasure in the strength of horses. He doesn’t take delight in the strong legs of warriors.

His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,

He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human might.

He is not impressed by the strength of a horse; he does not value the power of a warrior.

He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.

He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: He taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man.

He is not impressed by the strength of a horse; He does not value the power of a man.

He doesn’t delight in the strength of the horse. He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.

Those who go down to Egypt for help are as good as dead, those who rely on war horses, and trust in Egypt’s many chariots and in their many, many horsemen. But they do not rely on the Holy One of Israel and do not seek help from the LORD.

Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we depend on the LORD our God.

But the LORD said to Samuel,“ Don’t be impressed by his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. God does not view things the way men do. People look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

But I will have pity on the nation of Judah. I will deliver them by the LORD their God; I will not deliver them by the warrior’s bow, by sword, by military victory, by chariot horses, or by chariots.”

No king is delivered by his vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great might.A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot deliver.Look, the LORD takes notice of his loyal followers, those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness

“ Do you give the horse its strength? Do you clothe its neck with a mane?Do you make it leap like a locust? Its proud neighing is terrifying!It paws the ground in the valley, exulting mightily, it goes out to meet the weapons.It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not shy away from the sword.On it the quiver rattles; the lance and javelin flash.In excitement and impatience it consumes the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet is blown.At the sound of the trumpet, it says,‘ Aha!’ And from a distance it catches the scent of battle, the thunderous shouting of commanders, and the battle cries.

The three sons of Zeruiah were there– Joab, Abishai, and Asahel.( Now Asahel was as quick on his feet as one of the gazelles in the field.)Asahel chased Abner, without turning to the right or to the left as he followed Abner.Then Abner turned and asked,“ Is that you, Asahel?” He replied,“ Yes it is!”Abner said to him,“ Turn aside to your right or to your left. Capture one of the soldiers and take his equipment for yourself!” But Asahel was not willing to turn aside from following him.So Abner spoke again to Asahel,“ Turn aside from following me! I do not want to strike you to the ground. How then could I show my face in the presence of Joab your brother?”But Asahel refused to turn aside. So Abner struck him in the abdomen with the back end of his spear. The spear came out his back; Asahel collapsed on the spot and died there right before Abner. Everyone who now comes to the place where Asahel fell dead pauses in respect.

Saul and Jonathan were greatly loved during their lives, and not even in their deaths were they separated. They were swifter than eagles, stronger than lions.

A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory is from the LORD.
