敵人何詭詐。無風起波瀾。求主佑小子。安然脫其樊。

deliver me; rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.

save me. Set me free from outsiders who attack me. They tell all kinds of lies with their mouths. Even when they make a promise by raising their right hands, they don’t mean it.

Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

Save me! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.

Set me free and rescue me from foreigners whose mouths speak lies, whose right hands are deceptive.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth- rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate: and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:and the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people, and for the cities of our God: and Jehovah do that which seemeth him good.So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.

Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:and I will come upon him while he is weary and weak- handed, and will make him afraid; and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only;and I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not, speak thou.And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given this time is not good.Hushai said moreover, Thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field; and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them are fallen at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.And even he that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they that are with him are valiant men.But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer- sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground; and of him and of all the men that are with him we will not leave so much as one.Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out thence a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he came out, and cursed still as he came.And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Begone, begone, thou man of blood, and base fellow:Jehovah hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and Jehovah hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son; and, behold, thou art taken in thine own mischief, because thou art a man of blood.Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? Because he curseth, and because Jehovah hath said unto him, Curse David; who then shall say, Wherefore hast thou done so?And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more may this Benjamite now do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for Jehovah hath bidden him.It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done unto me, and that Jehovah will requite me good for his cursing of me this day.So David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill- side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary; and he refreshed himself there.

They speak falsehood every one with his neighbor: With flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.
