Lord, even before I speak a word, you know all about it.

耶和華歟、我舌有言、爾無不知兮、

耶和華兮、我之言詞、爾無不知悉兮、

主歟、我舌所發之言、主無不周知、

心聲未發。主已先知。

Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.

Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, LORD.

Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, Lord, You know it all.

For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.

Before a word is on my tongue, You know all about it, Lord.

For[ there is] not a word in my tongue,[ but], lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

Certainly my tongue does not frame a word without you, O LORD, being thoroughly aware of it.

For there is not a word on my tongue, but, behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether.

The word of God is alive and active. It is sharper than any sword that has two edges. It cuts deep enough to separate soul from spirit. It can separate bones from joints. It judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.Nothing God created is hidden from him. His eyes see everything. He will hold us responsible for everything we do.

Lord, may these words of my mouth please you. And may these thoughts of my heart please you also. You are my Rock and my Redeemer.

You use your mouth to speak evil. You use your tongue to spread lies.You are a witness against your brother. You always tell lies about your own mother’s son.When you did these things, I kept silent. So you thought I was just like you. But now I’m going to bring you to court. I will bring charges against you.

Suppose people think their beliefs and how they live are both right. But they don’t control what they say. Then they are fooling themselves. Their beliefs and way of life are not worth anything at all.

You asked me,‘ Who do you think you are to disagree with my plans? You do not know what you are talking about.’ I spoke about things I didn’t completely understand. I talked about things that were too wonderful for me to know.

“ Job, how long will you talk like that? Your words don’t have any meaning.

So I hate myself. I’m really sorry for what I said about you. That’s why I’m sitting in dust and ashes.”After the Lord finished speaking to Job, he spoke to Eliphaz the Temanite. He said,“ I am angry with you and your two friends. You have not said what is true about me, as my servant Job has.So now get seven bulls and seven rams. Go to my servant Job. Then sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you. And I will accept his prayer. I will not punish you for saying the foolish things you said. You have not said what is true about me, as my servant Job has.”

At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps. I will punish those who are so contented. They are like wine that has not been shaken up. They think,‘ The Lord won’t do anything. He won’t do anything good or bad.’

“ Who do you think you are to disagree with my plans? You do not know what you are talking about.

All of us get tripped up in many ways. Suppose someone is never wrong in what they say. Then they are perfect. They are able to keep their whole body under control.We put a small piece of metal in the mouth of a horse to make it obey us. We can control the whole animal with it.And how about ships? They are very big. They are driven along by strong winds. But they are steered by a very small rudder. It makes them go where the captain wants to go.In the same way, the tongue is a small part of a person’s body. But it talks big. Think about how a small spark can set a big forest on fire.The tongue is also a fire. The tongue is the most evil part of the body. It makes the whole body impure. It sets a person’s whole way of life on fire. And the tongue itself is set on fire by hell.People have tamed all kinds of wild animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures. And they still tame them.But no one can tame the tongue. It is an evil thing that never rests. It is full of deadly poison.With our tongues we praise our Lord and Father. With our tongues we curse people. We do it even though people have been created to be like God.Praise and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, it shouldn’t be this way.

A good man says good things. These come from the good that is stored up inside him. An evil man says evil things. These come from the evil that is stored up inside him.But here is what I tell you. On judgment day, everyone will have to account for every empty word they have spoken.By your words you will be found guilty or not guilty.”

“ You have spoken with pride against me,” says the Lord.“ But you ask,‘ What have we spoken against you?’“ You have said,‘ It is useless to serve God. What do we gain by obeying his laws? And what do we get by pretending to be sad in front of the Lord?But now we call proud people blessed. Things go well with those who do what is evil. And God doesn’t even punish those who test him.’ ”Those who had respect for the Lord talked with one another. And the Lord heard them. A list of people and what they did was written in a book in front of him. It included the names of those who respected the Lord and honored him.

That will happen because they have done awful things in Israel. They have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives. They have spoken lies in my name. I did not give them the authority to speak those things. I know what they have done. And I am a witness to it,” announces the Lord.
