He found favor with God and asked that he could find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.But Solomon built a house for him.Yet the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands, as the prophet says,‘ Heaven is my throne, and earth is the footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is my resting place?

David said to Solomon:“ My son, I really wanted to build a temple to honor the LORD my God.

They brought the ark of the LORD and put it in its place in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before the LORD.

“ God does not really live on the earth! Look, if the sky and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this temple I have built!

David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring the ark of the LORD up to the place he had prepared for it.

Of course, who can really build a temple for him, since the sky and the highest heavens cannot contain him? Who am I that I should build him a temple! It will really be only a place to offer sacrifices before him.

This is what the LORD says:“ The heavens are my throne and the earth is my footstool. Where then is the house you will build for me? Where is the place where I will rest?

He told them:“ You are the leaders of the Levites’ families. You and your relatives must consecrate yourselves and bring the ark of the LORD God of Israel up to the place I have prepared for it.
