叫沃土變成荒涼的鹽鹼地，因為那裡的居民邪惡。

五王會師西訂谷，即鹽海。

羅得舉目眺望，看見整個約旦河平原，遠至瑣珥，水源充足。在耶和華還沒有毀滅所多瑪和蛾摩拉之前，那地方就好像耶和華的伊甸園，又像埃及。

所多瑪人極其邪惡，在耶和華眼中罪惡滔天。

為我百姓那長滿荊棘和蒺藜的土地，為那曾經充滿歡樂的城邑和家庭哀哭吧！王宮必被遺棄，繁榮的城邑必荒蕪，山岡和瞭望塔必永遠成為野驢的樂園、羊群的草場。等到聖靈從上面澆灌我們的時候，曠野要變為沃野，沃野上莊稼茂密如林。

遍地將是硫磺和鹽，無法耕種，寸草不生，如同耶和華盛怒之下毀滅的所多瑪、蛾摩拉、押瑪和洗扁。萬國必問，『耶和華為什麼要這樣對待這地方？祂為什麼大發烈怒？』必有人回答說，『因為這地方的人背棄了他們祖先的上帝耶和華領他們出埃及時與他們所立的約，去供奉、祭拜他們所不認識、並非耶和華所分派的神明。因此，耶和華向這片土地發怒，把這書上的一切咒詛都降在這裡。耶和華盛怒之下把他們從這地方連根拔起，扔到別的地方，正如今日的情形。』

耶和華從天上把燃燒的硫磺降在所多瑪和蛾摩拉兩地，毀滅了這兩座城和其中的居民，包括整個平原和地上的植物。

但沼澤和濕窪之地卻不會改變，留作產鹽之地。
