彼變江河為曠野、源泉為燥土、

主因人民蹈於愆尤、使水區為沙漠、江河為槁壤、膏腴之土、成斥鹵之地兮、

主使江河之地、變為沙漠、泉源之處、變為旱地、

頑民怙惡。主心不悅。變川為沙。泉源枯竭。

He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,

He changes rivers into deserts, and springs of water into dry, thirsty land.

Why was there no one when I came? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Is My hand so short that it cannot redeem? Or do I have no power to rescue? Behold, I dry up the sea with My rebuke, I turn rivers into a wilderness; Their fish stink for lack of water, And die of thirst.

I will lay waste the mountains and hills And wither all their vegetation; I will turn the rivers into coastlands And dry up the ponds.

Moreover, I will make the Nile canals dry And sell the land into the hands of evil men. And I will make the land desolate And all that is in it, By the hand of strangers; I the Lord have spoken.”

Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall certainly be neither dew nor rain during these years, except by my word.”Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,“ Go away from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.And it shall be that you will drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to provide food for you there.”So he went and did everything according to the word of the Lord, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he would drink from the brook.But it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

Their nobles have sent their servants for water; They have come to the cisterns and found no water. They have returned with their containers empty; They have been put to shame and humiliated, And they cover their heads,

Then Ahab said to Obadiah,“ Go through the land to all the springs of water and to all the river valleys; perhaps we will find grass and keep the horses and mules alive, and not have to kill some of the cattle.”

The waters from the sea will dry up, And the river will be parched and dry.The canals will emit a stench, The streams of Egypt will thin out and dry up; The reeds and rushes will rot away.The bulrushes by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile And all the sown fields by the Nile Will become dry, be driven away, and be no more.And the fishermen will grieve, And all those who cast a line into the Nile will mourn, And those who spread nets on the waters will dwindle away.Moreover, the manufacturers of linen made from combed flax And the weavers of white cloth will be utterly dejected.And the pillars of Egypt will be crushed; All the hired laborers will be grieved in soul.

He rebukes the sea and dries it up; He dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither, The blossoms of Lebanon wither.

You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever flowing streams.

And He will stretch out His hand against the north And eliminate Assyria, And He will make Nineveh a desolation, Parched like the wilderness.

Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of armies, The God of Israel,“ Moab will assuredly be like Sodom, And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah— Ground overgrown with weeds and full of salt mines, And a permanent desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them, And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”

And Babylon, the beauty of kingdoms, the glory of the Chaldeans’ pride, Will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there, Nor will shepherds allow their flocks to lie down there.But desert creatures will lie down there, And their houses will be full of owls; Ostriches also will live there, and shaggy goats will frolic there.

“ Furthermore, I withheld the rain from you While there were still three months until harvest. Then I would send rain on one city, But on another city I would not send rain; One part would be rained on, While the part not rained on would dry up.So the people of two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink water, But would not be satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.

I am the One who says to the depth of the sea,‘ Dry up!’ And I will make your rivers dry up.

Its streams will be turned into pitch, And its loose earth into brimstone, And its land will become burning pitch.It will not be extinguished night or day; Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation it will be desolate; None will pass through it forever and ever.

Even the animals of the field pant for You; For the stream beds of water are dried up, And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
