彼變江河為曠野、源泉為燥土、

主因人民蹈於愆尤、使水區為沙漠、江河為槁壤、膏腴之土、成斥鹵之地兮、

主使江河之地、變為沙漠、泉源之處、變為旱地、

頑民怙惡。主心不悅。變川為沙。泉源枯竭。

He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,

He changes rivers into deserts, and springs of water into dry, thirsty land.

Wherefore, when I came,[ was there] no man? when I called,[ was there] none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because[ there is] no water, and dieth for thirst.

I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken[ it].

And Elijah the Tishbite,[ who was] of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab,[ As] the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that[ is] before Jordan.And it shall be,[ that] thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that[ is] before Jordan.And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits,[ and] found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.

And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.And they shall turn the rivers far away;[ and] the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no[ more].The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish.Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be confounded.And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices[ and] ponds for fish.

He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.

And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation,[ and] dry like a wilderness.

Therefore[ as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah,[ even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

And also I have withholden the rain from you, when[ there were] yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.So two[ or] three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:

And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
