主乃發誓。傾覆頑強。使於曠野。終身徬徨。

So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the wilderness,

So he lifted up his hand and promised that he would make them die in the desert.

Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them that he would make them fall in the wilderness,

So he raised his hand against them with an oath that he would make them fall in the desert

Therefore He swore to them That He would have them fall in the wilderness,

Therefore He raised His hand in an oath against them, To overthrow them in the wilderness,

Therefore he sware unto them, That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

So He raised His hand against them with an oath that He would make them fall in the desert

Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert,

Therefore he swore to them that he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

But I took a solemn oath against them in the wilderness. I swore I would not bring them into the land I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful place on earth.

Now tell them this:‘ As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say.You will all drop dead in this wilderness! Because you complained against me, every one of you who is twenty years old or older and was included in the registration will die.You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.“‘ You said your children would be carried off as plunder. Well, I will bring them safely into the land, and they will enjoy what you have despised.But as for you, you will drop dead in this wilderness.And your children will be like shepherds, wandering in the wilderness for forty years. In this way, they will pay for your faithlessness, until the last of you lies dead in the wilderness.“‘ Because your men explored the land for forty days, you must wander in the wilderness for forty years— a year for each day, suffering the consequences of your sins. Then you will discover what it is like to have me for an enemy.’I, the Lord, have spoken! I will certainly do these things to every member of the community who has conspired against me. They will be destroyed here in this wilderness, and here they will die!”

So in my anger I took an oath:‘ They will never enter my place of rest.’”

And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him?

Abram replied to the king of Sodom,“ I solemnly swear to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,that I will not take so much as a single thread or sandal thong from what belongs to you. Otherwise you might say,‘ I am the one who made Abram rich.’

Then the angel I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand toward heaven.He swore an oath in the name of the one who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and everything in them, the earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it. He said,“ There will be no more delay.

Now I raise my hand to heaven and declare,“ As surely as I live,when I sharpen my flashing sword and begin to carry out justice, I will take revenge on my enemies and repay those who reject me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh— the blood of the slaughtered and the captives, and the heads of the enemy leaders.”’

“ When the Lord heard your complaining, he became very angry. So he solemnly swore,‘ Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,
