He has been kind to our people of long ago. He has remembered his holy covenant.He made a promise to our father Abraham.

You will be faithful to Jacob’s people. You will show your love to Abraham’s children. You will do what you promised to do for our people. You made that promise long ago.

The Lord spoke to Abram after Lot had left him. He said,“ Look around from where you are. Look north and south, east and west.I will give you all the land you see. I will give it forever to you and your family who comes after you.I will make them like the dust of the earth. Can dust be counted? If it can, then your family can be counted.Go! Walk through the land. See how long and wide it is. I am giving it to you.”

Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel. You made a promise to them in your own name. You said,‘ I will make your children after you as many as the stars in the sky. I will give them all this land I promised them. It will belong to them forever.’ ”

He has helped the people of Israel, who serve him. He has always remembered to be kindto Abraham and his children down through the years. He has done it just as he promised to our people of long ago.”

Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Forgive the Israelites for being so stubborn. Don’t judge them for the evil and sinful things they’ve done.

Then the Lord said to him,“ You can be sure of what I am about to tell you. For 400 years, your family who comes after you will be strangers in another country. They will become slaves there and will be treated badly.But I will punish the nation that makes them slaves. After that, they will leave with many possessions.

The Lord appeared to Abram at Shechem. He said,“ I will give this land to your family who comes after you.” So Abram built an altar there to honor the Lord, who had appeared to him.

You are not going in to take over their land because you have done what is right or honest. It’s because those nations are so evil. That’s why the Lord your God will drive them out to make room for you. He will do what he said he would do. He made a promise to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

He will keep his covenant forever. He will keep his promise for all time to come.He will keep the covenant he made with Abraham. He will keep the promise he made to Isaac.He made it stand as a law for Jacob. He made it stand as a covenant for Israel that will last forever.He said,“ I will give you the land of Canaan. It will belong to you.”
