也沒有白吃過誰的飯，反而辛苦勞碌，晝夜作工，免得加重你們任何一人的負擔。這不是因為我們沒有權利，而是要給你們作榜樣，好讓你們效法我們。我們在你們那裡的時候，曾經吩咐過你們，如果有人不肯作工，就不可吃飯。因為我們聽說，你們中間有人游手好閒，甚麼工也不作，反倒專管閒事。我們靠著主耶穌基督，吩咐勸戒這樣的人，要安靜作工，自食其力。

偷竊的，不要再偷，卻要作工，親手作正當的事，使自己可以把所得到的，分給缺乏的人。

到晚上，有一個老年人從田間工作回來；那人原是以法蓮山地的人，寄居在基比亞；那地方的人卻是便雅憫人。

勞力的人無論吃多吃少，都睡得甜；財主的豐足，卻不容他安睡。
