The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.

Those who do what is right want to treat poor people fairly. But those who do what is wrong don’t care about the poor.

A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge.

The godly care about the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care at all.

The righteous person knows the rights of the poor, but the wicked one does not understand these concerns.

The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor; The wicked does not understand such concern.

The righteous considers the cause of the poor, But the wicked does not understand such knowledge.

The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; The wicked hath not understanding to know it.

The righteous person knows the rights of the poor, but the wicked one does not understand these concerns.

The righteous considereth the cause of the poor:[ but] the wicked regardeth not to know[ it].

The righteous person cares for the legal rights of the poor; the wicked does not understand such knowledge.

I was a father to the needy. I researched the cause of him who I didn’t know.

Blessed is he who considers the poor. Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil.

Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate.Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy.”

Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.“ I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.Therefore I have poured out my indignation on them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have brought their own way on their heads,” says the Lord Yahweh.

“ Should you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.He judged the cause of the poor and needy; so it was well, then. Wasn’t this to know me?” says Yahweh.But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”

When David’s young men came, they spoke to Nabal all those words in the name of David, and waited.Nabal answered David’s servants, and said,“ Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.Shall I then take my bread, my water, and my meat that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men who I don’t know where they come from?”

Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted.

“ If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me,

I will be glad and rejoice in your loving kindness, for you have seen my affliction. You have known my soul in adversities.

In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

I said,“ Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: Isn’t it for you to know justice?You who hate the good, and love the evil; who tear off their skin, and their flesh from off their bones;who also eat the flesh of my people, and peel their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as meat within the cauldron.Then they will cry to Yahweh, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, because they made their deeds evil.”

They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t defend the rights of the needy.
