有人報告埃及王說：「百姓逃跑了！」法老和他的臣僕對百姓改變了心意，說：「我們放以色列人走，不再服事我們，我們怎麼會做這種事呢？」

仇敵說：『我要追趕，我要追上，我要分擄物，在他們身上滿足我的心願，我要拔刀，親手毀滅他們。』

第五位天使把碗傾倒在獸的座位上，獸的國就變成黑暗。人因疼痛而咬自己的舌頭；又因所受的疼痛和生的瘡，就褻瀆天上的神，也沒有為他們的行為悔改。
