Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:

好饮酒的，好吃肉的，不要与他们来往；

不可与好饮酒的人在一起，也不要跟贪吃肉的人来往，

不要结交酒肉朋友，

酗酒的人，不可与他们来往；暴食的人，不要与他们为友。

Do not spend time among drunkards, among those who eat too much meat,

Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;

Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.

“ So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.

Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink, who stay late into the night, until wine inflames them!

Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Whoever keeps the law is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.

and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with the drunkards,

For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming.

and behold, joy and gladness, killing cattle and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine:“ Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.”

“ Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the middle of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:“ They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don’t feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another.”

Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, and wine to the bitter in soul.Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Not many days after, the younger son gathered all of this together and traveled into a far country. There he wasted his property with riotous living.
