Prepare plans by consultation, And make war by wise guidance.

Plans are established by seeking advice; so if you wage war, obtain guidance.

Plans are made by asking for guidance. So if you go to war, get good advice.

Plans are established by counsel; by wise guidance wage war.

Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice.

Finalize plans with counsel, and wage war with sound guidance.

Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to face the one coming against him with twenty thousand?

Now it came about after the death of Joshua that the sons of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying,“ Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”The Lord said,“ Judah shall go up; behold, I have handed the land over to him.”

Now the sons of Israel set out, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God and said,“ Who shall go up first for us to battle against the sons of Benjamin?” Then the Lord said,“ Judah shall go up first.”

Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in an abundance of counselors there is victory.

Then Abner called to Joab and said,“ Should the sword devour forever? Do you not realize that it will be bitter in the end? So how long will you refrain from telling the people to turn back from pursuing their kinsmen?”Joab said,“ As God lives, if you had not spoken, then the people of Judah certainly would have withdrawn in the morning, each from pursuing his brother.”

Behold, all you sons of Israel, give your response and advice here.”

And the sons of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and inquired of the Lord, saying,“ Shall we again advance for battle against the sons of my brother Benjamin?” And the Lord said,“ Go up against him.”

If only this people were under my authority! Then I would do away with Abimelech.” And he said to Abimelech,“ Enlarge your army and come out!”

Then all the sons of Israel and all the people went up and came to Bethel, and they wept and remained there before the Lord, and fasted that day until evening. And they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.And the sons of Israel inquired of the Lord( for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, Aaron’s son, stood before it to minister in those days), saying,“ Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of my brother Benjamin, or shall I stop?” And the Lord said,“ Go up, for tomorrow I will hand them over to you.”

Do not go out hastily to argue your case; Otherwise, what will you do in the end, When your neighbor humiliates you?

Then Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent word to Joash the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying,“ Come, let’s face each other.”But Joash the king of Israel sent a reply to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thorn bush that was in Lebanon sent word to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thorn bush.You said,‘ Behold, you have defeated Edom.’ And your heart has lifted you up in boasting. Now stay home; why should you provoke trouble so that you, would fall, you and Judah with you?”But Amaziah would not listen, for it was from God, so that He might hand them over to Joash, because they had sought the gods of Edom.So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth shemesh, which belonged to Judah.And Judah was defeated by Israel, and they fled, every man to his tent.Then Joash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem and tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits.
