It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

It is a sin to hate your neighbor. But blessed is the person who is kind to those in need.

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.

It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.

The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.

He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

One who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a person of understanding keeps silent.

One who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, But one who is gracious to the needy honors Him.

For He has not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.

“ If I have rejected the claim of my male or female slaves When they filed a complaint against me,What then could I do when God arises? And when He calls me to account, how am I to answer Him?Did He who made me in the womb not make him, And the same one create us in the womb?

There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in poverty.A generous person will be prosperous, And one who gives others plenty of water will himself be given plenty.

Look at the heavens and see; And look at the clouds— they are higher than you.If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against Him? And if your wrongdoings are many, what do you do to Him?

so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and endurance inherit the promises.

When a wicked person comes, contempt also comes, And with dishonor comes taunting.

In everything I showed you that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said,‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?Little children, let’s not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will set our heart at ease before Him,that if our heart condemns us, that God is greater than our heart, and He knows all things.Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;and whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

Is it not to break your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will spring up quickly; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; You will cry for help, and He will say,‘ Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness,And if you offer yourself to the hungry And satisfy the need of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness, And your gloom will become like midday.And the Lord will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of the breach, The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

He has given freely to the poor, His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted in honor.

Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you: wipe away your sin by doing righteousness, and your wrongdoings by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity.’

It goes well for a person who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment.

What use is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith, but he has no works? Can that faith save him?If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,and one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?

Cast your bread on the surface of the waters, for you will find it after many days.Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth.

“ Then the King will say to those on His right,‘ Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’Then the righteous will answer Him,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?And when did we see You as a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’And the King will answer and say to them,‘ Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’“ Then He will also say to those on His left,‘ Depart from Me, you accursed people, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’Then they themselves also will answer,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or as a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’Then He will answer them,‘ Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it for one of the least of these, you did not do it for Me, either.’These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Blessed is one who considers the helpless; The Lord will save him on a day of trouble.The Lord will protect him and keep him alive, And he will be called blessed upon the earth; And do not turn him over to the desire of his enemies.

Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters: did God not choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?

Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.Treat people the same way you want them to treat you.If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.But love your enemies and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil people.Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Now He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:
