I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.

I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content— whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need.

I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

劳碌辛苦，多次不得睡觉，又饥又渴，多次缺粮，赤身挨冷。

我心里柔和谦卑，你们应当负我的轭，向我学习，你们就必得着心灵的安息；

又因为我所得的启示太大，恐怕会高抬自己，所以就有一根刺加在我的身上，就是撒但的差役来攻击我，免得我高抬自己。为了这事，我曾经三次求主，使这根刺离开我。他却对我说：“我的恩典是够你用的，因为我的能力在人的软弱上显得完全。”所以，我更喜欢夸自己的软弱，好让基督的能力临到我的身上。因此，我为基督的缘故，就以软弱、凌辱、艰难、迫害、困苦为喜乐，因为我什么时候软弱，什么时候就刚强了。

我在你们那里有缺乏的时候，并没有连累任何人，因为从马其顿来的弟兄们，补足了我的缺乏。我在各方面都不让自己成为你们的重担，将来也是一样。

反而在各样的事上，表明自己是神的仆人，就如持久的忍耐、患难、贫乏、困苦、鞭打、监禁、扰乱、劳苦、不睡觉、禁食、纯洁、知识、容忍、恩慈、圣灵、无伪的爱心、真理的道、神的大能等事上；并且是藉着左右两手中公义的武器，藉着荣耀和羞辱、坏名声和好名誉。我们好像是骗人的，却是真诚的，好像是人所不知的，却是人所共知的；好像是必死的，你看，我们却是活着的；好像是受惩罚的，却没有处死；好像忧愁，却是常常喜乐的；好像贫穷，却使很多人富足；好像是什么都没有，却是样样都有。

我回转以后，就深深悔悟；我醒觉以后，就拍腿悔恨。因为我承受年幼时的耻辱，我感到羞耻和惭愧。’

我保罗与你们见面的时候是谦卑的，不在你们那里的时候，却是放胆的。现在我亲自以基督的谦逊温柔劝你们，

我想神是把我们作使徒的列在最后，好像定了死刑的人，因为我们成了一台戏给宇宙观看，就是给天使和世人观看！我们为基督的缘故，成了愚笨的；你们在基督里，倒成了聪明的。我们软弱，你们倒强壮；你们受人尊敬，我们倒被轻视。直到现在，我们还是又饥又渴，衣不蔽体，又挨打，又没有栖身的地方，并且劳苦，亲手作工。被人咒骂，我们就祝福；遭受迫害，我们就忍受；被人毁谤，我们却好好地劝导；直到现在，人还是把我们当作世上的垃圾，万物的渣滓。

耶和华在旷野之地遇见了他，在荒凉之地和野兽吼叫的荒野，遇见了他，就环绕他，看顾他，保护他，好像保护自己眼中的瞳人一样。

耶和华以大能的手托住我，教导我不要走这子民所走的道路；他对我这样说：

因为有人说：“他的信又严厉又强硬，他本人却其貌不扬，言语粗俗。”

我贬低自己，使你们高升，把神的福音白白地传给你们，我这样是犯罪吗？

你赐下良善的灵教导他们；你没有留住吗哪不给他们吃；你给他们水解渴。

耶稣说：“所以，每一个作天国门徒的经学家，就像家主从宝库中拿出新和旧的东西来。”

但是你们从基督所学的，却不是这样。如果你们听了他，在他里面受过教导，（因为真理是在耶稣里的，）
