Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.

You did harmful things to the people of Jacob. They are your relatives. So you will be covered with shame. You will be destroyed forever.

Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.

“ Because of the violence you did to your close relatives in Israel, you will be filled with shame and destroyed forever.

You will be covered with shame and destroyed forever because of violence done to your brother Jacob.

“ Because of violence to your brother Jacob, Shame will cover you, And you will be eliminated forever.

“ For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.

For the violence done to thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

You will be covered with shame and destroyed forever because of violence done to your brother Jacob.

For[ thy] violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

“ Because you violently slaughtered your relatives, the people of Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be destroyed forever.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three sins of Edom, even for four, I will not relent. Because he pursued his brother with a sword and slaughtered the women of the land, because his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked, (niv)

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying:“ This is what your brother Israel says: You know about all the hardships that have come on us.Our ancestors went down into Egypt, and we lived there many years. The Egyptians mistreated us and our ancestors,but when we cried out to the Lord, he heard our cry and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt.“ Now we are here at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.Please let us pass through your country. We will travel along the King’s Highway and not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”But Edom answered:“ You may not pass through here; if you try, we will march out and attack you with the sword.”The Israelites replied:“ We will go along the main road, and if we or our livestock drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We only want to pass through on foot— nothing else.”Again they answered:“ You may not pass through.” Then Edom came out against them with a large and powerful army.Since Edom refused to let them go through their territory, Israel turned away from them. I will make you desolate forever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord. (niv)

Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell.“ Tear it down,” they cried,“ tear it down to its foundations!” (niv)

You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame. (niv)

They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the Lord. (niv)

Then my enemy will see it and will be covered with shame, she who said to me,“ Where is the Lord your God?” My eyes will see her downfall; even now she will be trampled underfoot like mire in the streets. (niv)

With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you—the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants.Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, (niv)

May my accusers be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. (niv)

For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. (niv)

I swear by myself,” declares the Lord,“ that Bozrah will become a ruin and a curse, an object of horror and reproach; and all its towns will be in ruins forever.” (niv)

Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’” (niv)

Let us lie down in our shame, and let our disgrace cover us. We have sinned against the Lord our God, both we and our ancestors; from our youth till this day we have not obeyed the Lord our God.” (niv)

Rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked. (niv)

“‘ Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax,therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go. (niv)

They will put on sackcloth and be clothed with terror. Every face will be covered with shame, and every head will be shaved. (niv)

“ Edom will become an object of horror; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds.As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,” says the Lord,“ so no one will live there; no people will dwell in it.“ Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pastureland, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?”Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom, what he has purposed against those who live in Teman: The young of the flock will be dragged away; their pasture will be appalled at their fate. But Egypt will be desolate, Edom a desert waste, because of violence done to the people of Judah, in whose land they shed innocent blood. (niv)

“ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:‘ Because Edom took revenge on Judah and became very guilty by doing so,therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will stretch out my hand against Edom and kill both man and beast. I will lay it waste, and from Teman to Dedan they will fall by the sword.I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom in accordance with my anger and my wrath; they will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign Lord.’” (niv)
