They will be places of refuge from the avenger, so that anyone accused of murder may not die before they stand trial before the assembly.

They will be places of safety for them. People will be safe there from those who want to kill them. Then anyone charged with murder will not die before their case has been brought to the community court.

The cities shall be for you a refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer may not die until he stands before the congregation for judgment.

会众就要照这些律例在误杀人者与复仇者之间做出判决。会众要把误杀人者从复仇者手里救出来，让他回到他原先逃往的避难城。他要住在那里，一直住到受圣油膏立的大祭司逝世。但倘若误杀人者离开避难城，复仇者在城外找到他，将他杀死也不用担血债。

报仇的人要亲自处死故意杀人者，一找到他就要处死他。

“如果有人因憎恨邻居而暗中埋伏，杀了邻居，然后逃到避难城，他本城的长老要派人去把他带回来，交给复仇的人，将他处死。

现在整个家族都起来反对婢女，说，‘把那打死亲兄弟的凶手交出来，我们要他以命偿命，除掉这个继承人。’他们要断了我家的香火，使婢女的丈夫既不能留名，也不能留后。”
