你不可跪拜事奉他们的神明，也不可随从他们的习俗，却要彻底废除，完全打碎他们的柱像。

“你们不可为自己造虚无的神明，不可竖立雕刻的偶像或柱像，也不可在你们的地上安放石像，向它跪拜，因为我是耶和华—你们的上帝。

当耶和华—你的上帝把他们交给你，你击杀他们的时候，你要完全消灭他们，不可与他们立约，也不可怜惜他们。不可与他们结亲；不可将你的女儿嫁给他的儿子，也不可叫你的儿子娶他的女儿。因为他必使你的儿女离弃我，去事奉别神，以致耶和华的怒气向你们发作，迅速将你除灭。你们却要这样处置他们：拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的柱像，砍断他们的亚舍拉，用火焚烧他们雕刻的偶像。

但是这些民族的城镇，就是耶和华—你上帝所赐给你的产业，其中凡有气息的，一个都不可存留。你要照耶和华—你上帝所吩咐的，将这些赫人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人全都灭绝，免得他们教导你们去行一切可憎恶的事，就是他们向自己神明所行的，使你们得罪耶和华—你们的上帝。

我要定你的疆界，从红海直到非利士海，从旷野直到大河。我要把那地的居民交在你手中，你要把他们从你面前赶出去。不可跟他们和他们的神明立约。他们不可住在你的地上，免得他们使你得罪我。你若事奉他们的神明，必成为你的圈套。”

你们不可与这地的居民立约，要拆毁他们的祭坛。’你们竟没有听从我的话。你们为何这样做呢！

他们不照耶和华所吩咐的灭绝外邦人，反倒与列国相交，学习他们的行为，事奉他们的偶像，这就成了自己的圈套。

你们占领的国家所事奉他们众神明的地方，无论是在高山，在小山，在一切的青翠树下，你们要彻底毁坏；要拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的柱像，用火焚烧他们的亚舍拉，砍断他们神明的雕刻偶像，并要从那地方除去他们的名。

你要谨慎，不可与你所要去那地的居民立约，免得他们成为你中间的圈套。你要拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的柱像，砍断他们的亚舍拉。不可敬拜别神，因为耶和华是忌邪的上帝，他的名是忌邪者。你不可与那地的居民立约，因为他们随从自己的神明行淫；祭他们神明的时候，有人邀请你参加，你就会吃他的祭物。你为你儿子娶他们的女儿为妻，他们的女儿因着随从她们的神明行淫，就引诱你的儿子也随从她们的神明行淫。“不可为自己铸造神像。

你们要用火焚烧他们神明的雕刻偶像；不可贪爱偶像上的金银，也不可私自收起来，免得你因此陷入圈套，因为这是耶和华—你上帝所憎恶的。你不可把可憎之物带进你的家，否则，你就像它一样成为当毁灭的。你要彻底憎恨它，极其厌恶它，因为这是当毁灭的。”

不可与你们中间所剩下的这些国家往来。你们不可提他们神明的名，不可指着它们起誓，不可事奉它们，也不可敬拜它们。

那时你要谨慎，在他们从你面前被除灭之后，你不可受引诱随从他们，也不可求问他们的神明，说：‘这些国家怎样事奉他们的神明，我也要照样做。’你不可向耶和华—你的上帝这样做，因为他们向他们的神明做了耶和华所憎恨、所厌恶的一切事，甚至将自己的儿女用火焚烧，献给他们的神明。

以色列人用刀击杀城中所有的人，把他们完全灭尽；凡有气息的，没有留下一个。约书亚又用火焚烧夏琐。约书亚夺了这些王的一切城镇，擒获了这些王，用刀杀了他们，把他们完全灭尽，正如耶和华的仆人摩西所吩咐的。
