“ They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the Lord’s people.

“ The women followed Balaam’s advice. They caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord. The people worshiped the god named Baal that was worshiped at Peor. So a plague struck them.

Behold, these, on Balaam’s advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the Lord.

“ These are the very ones who followed Balaam’s advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the Lord at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the Lord’s people.

“ Yet they are the ones who, at Balaam’s advice, incited the Israelites to unfaithfulness against the LORD in the Peor incident, so that the plague came against the LORD’s community.

Behold, they caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to be unfaithful to the Lord in the matter of Peor, so that the plague took place among the congregation of the Lord!

“ Yet they are the ones who, at Balaam’s advice, incited the Israelites to unfaithfulness against the Lord in the Peor incident, so that the plague came against the Lord’s community.

以色列人住在什亭，百姓与摩押女子行起淫乱。因为这女子叫百姓来，一同给她们的神献祭，百姓就吃她们的祭物，跪拜她们的神。以色列人与巴力毗珥连合，耶和华的怒气就向以色列人发作。耶和华吩咐摩西说：“将百姓中所有的族长在我面前对着日头悬挂，使我向以色列人所发的怒气可以消了。”于是摩西吩咐以色列的审判官说：“凡属你们的人，有与巴力毗珥连合的，你们各人要把他们杀了。”摩西和以色列全会众正在会幕门前哭泣的时候，谁知，有以色列中的一个人，当他们眼前，带着一个米甸女人到他弟兄那里去。祭司亚伦的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会中起来，手里拿着枪，跟随那以色列人进亭子里去，便将以色列人和那女人由腹中刺透。这样，在以色列人中瘟疫就止息了。那时遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。

他们离弃正路，就走差了，随从比珥之子巴兰的路。巴兰就是那贪爱不义之工价的先知，

然而，有几件事我要责备你：因为在你那里有人服从了巴兰的教训；这巴兰曾教导巴勒将绊脚石放在以色列人面前，叫他们吃祭偶像之物，行奸淫的事。

耶和华因巴力毗珥的事所行的，你们亲眼看见了。凡随从巴力毗珥的人，耶和华你们的神都从你们中间除灭了。

从前拜毗珥的罪孽还算小吗？虽然瘟疫临到耶和华的会众，到今日我们还没有洗净这罪。

“现在我要回本族去。你来，我告诉你这民日后要怎样待你的民。”

因为他们用诡计扰害你们，在毗珥的事上和他们的姐妹、米甸首领的女儿哥斯比的事上，用这诡计诱惑了你们；这哥斯比，当瘟疫流行的日子，因毗珥的事被杀了。”

妓女是深坑；外女是窄阱。

我得知有等妇人比死还苦：她的心是网罗，手是锁链。凡蒙神喜悦的人必能躲避她；有罪的人却被她缠住了。
